Distribution of COVID- 19 kits during Pandemic in 2021

The second wave of the coronavirus in 2021 was more severe. More people were affected in Delhi and Maharashtra compared to other states. The pandemic was exceptionally tough on people who were victims of the coronavirus and had to be hospitalized. Beds were not available in most hospitals and they had to travel with great difficulty to a government hospital because of lack of funds. Many people had to visit doctors in OPD in the hospital as they were in dire need of medical help.

To combat the unprecedented situation, when hospitals were running out of beds and family members of most households were affected by the deadly virus, we undertook a program, though a small step, to alleviate the suffering of people and provided them need-based assistance to strengthen the response to the pandemic.

Hence, our organization decided to reach out to such people and sent the kits to the doctors there, even though no public transport was available. We distributed about 200 COVID kits to the needy in-house and OPD patients in Deen Dayal Upadhyay Government Hospital located in West Delhi.

Our organization donated COVID- 19 kits which were distributed along with free ration through Mrs. Meenakshi Lekhi, then Member of Parliament and now Minister of State for External Affairs and Culture Govt. of India, and the President of the organization, Mrs. Abha Bahadur, to nearly 200 people of Kalkaji, Govindpuri, Tughlakabad and Chittranjan Park in South Delhi. As people were migrating to their home states of UP/ Bihar, the government provided free ration to them and urged them to stay back.

Distribution of COVID- 19 kits during Pandemic in 2020 in Village Chouriya, Jharkhand

In June 2020, CWSHW sent the Covid-19 kits in two lots to Village Chouriya in Thane Tanho, near Ranchi , in Jharkhand to help boost the immune system of people in their fight against Covid-19. The kits were distributed there by us through local teachers to the men and women in the village.

The unforeseen wave of the Covid 19 Pandemic in 2020 placed undue pressure on the health-care system throughout the country. We realized we needed to build a healthy corpus of fitness and immunity in ourselves if we were to tide over the tough times.

As hand hygiene, wearing masks and boosting our immune system were paramount to protect ourselves from the epidemic during the lockdown, our organization, Centre for Water, Sanitation and Health for Women, appealed for and collected donations from friends and known persons through WhatsApp messaging and requested them to join this Call to Action and extend a generous helping hand.

COVID-19 kits comprising of N95 Mask, Sanitizer, Soap,Chlorine Tablets, Gloves, Water Bottle,Thermometer, Vitamin C and Zinc Tablets,Paracetemol Tablets, 2 ORS pkts, Vicks, Sanitary napkin packet for ladies, etc were made.
